HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Suzi Raymant scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as 20th-ranked Kansas began its season with a 70-56 triumph over Houston. Raymant shot 6-of-16 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds in her first game after suffering a torn ACL last season. Jennifer Jackson and Brooke Reves had 13 points apiece and Jaclyn Johnson added 10 and 13 rebounds for her third career double-double. Reves added 11 rebounds as the Jayhawks gained a 59-34 edge, including 22-12 on the offensive boards and hit 39 percent (26-of-66) of their field goal attempts. All-American candidate Lynn Pride was held to eight points on 4-of-14 shooting as Kansas improved to 4-0 lifetime against Houston. Kansas (1-0) shot 44 percent (16-of-36) in the first half and opened a 39-27 bulge. Houston (0-1) connected on just 32 percent (9-of-28) of its shots in the opening 20 minutes. Norma Noel scored 14 points off the bench, Cathy Lida had 12 and ShaRonsa Lasseter added 10 for the Lady Cougars, who shot a paltry 29 percent (17-of-58) overall.
