CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Schuye LaRue scored 18 points and Telisha Quarles added 17 Sunday as No. 16 Virginia beat Wake Forest 77-71 to win the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title. The Cavaliers (22-7, 13-3) started the day tied with Duke (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today; No. 9 AP) for the top spot, and the Blue Devils lost 73-64 to North Carolina. Virginia's championship is its first since 1996, and means the Cavaliers and Wake Forest will play again in the ACC tournament quarterfinals on March 3. The Cavaliers led 35-23 at halftime and stretched the lead to 16 points on a basket by Elena Kravchenko with just over 10 minutes to play. Wake Forest (7-20, 3-13) began chipping away at the lead, pulling within six on a 3-pointer by Brenda Kirkpatrick with 4:23 left. That was as close as Wake Forest would get until the end, when Alisha Mosley scored with 1.7 seconds left. Mosley finished with 21 points, Kristen Shaffer had 14 and Kirkpatrick 12.
LaRue also had 11 rebounds. Renee Robinson added 12 points for Virginia in her final home game, and Svetlana Volnaya had 11.
