TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- No matter how well LSU (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 7 AP) plays, it just can't win in Tuscaloosa. Shondra Johnson made four free throws in the final 1:06 to lift Alabama to a 72-68 upset over No. 7 LSU, snapping the Tigers' eight-game winning streak. LSU (18-4 overall, 7-2 Southeastern Conference) hasn't won at Tuscaloosa since 1986, a streak of eight straight losses. "It seems like the same story every time we come here," LSU coach Sue Gunter said. "We were unable to sustain a lead and we just could not defend them." Alabama (14-8, 4-5) snapped a two-game losing streak. The Crimson Tide was coming off Sunday's 65-47 loss at No. 4 Tennessee and coach Rick Moody wasn't sure if they were ready for the Tigers. "Facing a top 10 team after the tough losses we had last week was a real challenge," Moody said. "We had to play confidently or we could have gotten hammered." Johnson finished with 19 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Tide (14-8, 4-5 SEC). Taquilla Allen, LaNisha Cartwell and Boo Barnes chipped in 10 points apiece. Marie Ferdinand led LSU with 21 points. Katrina Hibbert scored 18, DeTrina White had 15 points and 10 rebounds and April Brown finished with 10 points. Alabama trailed almost the entire game, but never let LSU pull away in the second half. The Tide tied it at 66 on Allen's 3-pointer with 2:00 to play, LSU's White turned the ball over on the Tigers' next possession and Johnson was fouled. She made both free throws to give Alabama a 70-68 lead with 1:06 to play. After an LSU miss, the Tigers had to foul Johnson with 11 seconds to play and she made both free throws. "The second half was our best basketball of the year," Moody said. "It was a total team effort."
