Freshman sets tone for UCLA rout

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Guard Nicole Kaczmarski scored 17 points Friday night to lead 17th-ranked UCLA to a 90-54 victory over Washington in a Pac-10 opener.

UCLA (7-4) led 44-32 at halftime and opened the second half with a 12-0 run that included 10 straight points by Kaczmarski. The freshman hit two 3-pointers, two free throws and a jumper during the run.

UCLA also had runs of 6-0 and 10-0 during the second half. It took Washington nearly five minutes to score in the second half, with Melissa Erickson ending the drought with 15:08 left in the game.

The Bruins had five players in double figures, with Janae Hubbard scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Maylana Martin also had 15 points for UCLA and Michelle Greco chipped in with 12 points off the bench.

Loree Payne scored 17 points for Washington (4-9). Megan Franza, who had been averaging 20.9 points a game, finished with 16.
