The Downtown Athletic Club has announced four of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. In one of the closest races in years, there may still be another name or possibly two added to the final list. The Heisman Award will be presented Saturday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
One of the most exciting players in college football today and one of the best ever to play at Nebraska. While Crouch was a solid passer -- he was 105-of-189 (55.6 percent) for 1,510 yards with 7 TDs and 10 interceptions -- he was absolutely amazing running the option. He rushed 203 times for 1,115 yards (an average of 5.5 yards per carry) and 18 TDs. Crouch single-handedly controlled the Huskers offense and led them to an 11-1 record.
Dorsey doesn't look like the prototypical QB, but he sure plays like one. Dorsey, 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, was 185-of-319 (58 percent) for 2,667 yards with 23 TDs and 9 TDs. In the process, Dorsey led the 'Canes to an undefeated season and a trip to the national championship game at the Rose Bowl.
There was supposed to be a QB controversy in Florida this season. Instead, Grossman shut everyone up -- including coach Steve Spurrier -- and had a season not seen in Gainesville since Danny Wuerrfel was winning the Heisman and national title in 1996. Grossman completed 259-of-395 passed (65.6 percent) for 3,896 yards and 34 TDs and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 5 TDs while leading the Gators to a 9-2 record.
Joey Harrington's season started with a billboard in NYC (worth $250,000) and ends with a trip to the Heisman Awards Ceremony. In the process, Captain Comeback or Joey Heisman (take you pick of nicknames) completed 57.8 percent of his passes (186-of-322) for 2,414 yards and 23 TDs with just 5 interceptions. He also rushed for 7 TDs as the Ducks won the Pac-10 championship. |
