Brees is preseason favorite to win Heisman

 ESPN.com

Every year the debate rages on and on and on over who should win the Heisman Trophy. Opinions are tossed around like Drew Brees' passes and the answer is harder to grab than Michael Vick.

Finally, there's an answer.

ESPN.com will conduct a weekly poll asking 11 ESPN experts to rank their top five Heisman contenders in order. A first place vote earns five points, second place earns four points and so on down the line.

The panel of experts consists of ESPN analysts, radio personalities and writers including Todd Christensen, Beano Cook, Lee Corso, Bill Curry, Rod Gilmore, Mike Gottfried, Kirk Herbstreit, Mel Kiper, Jr., John Mackovic, Mike Tirico and Gene Wojciechowski.

So let the debates begin, but now you have the inside information on who should win the Heisman Trophy.

The opening poll puts Purdue's Drew Brees on top with five first place votes and 42.5 points overall. Michael Vick earned four first place votes and 38 points overall, but was in second place as he was left off one ballot. Florida State's Chris Weinke was third with 19 points and Georgia's Quincy Carter and Alabama's Freddie Milons round out the top five.

Below is the first poll, with complete results.
