MIAMI -- Miami starting linebacker Michael Smith, injured in the first half of the Hurricanes' 27-23 loss to No. 2 Penn State, had surgery on his right knee Sunday, ending his college career.
Smith, a fifth-year senior for the ninth-ranked Hurricanes, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
