Thursday, December 20 Updated: December 21, 1:45 PM ET Radio station to air '99 Independence Bowl instead Associated Press OXFORD, Miss. -- Miffed that Mississippi was slighted by the bowls, an Oxford radio station has decided to give Rebels fans in North Mississippi a consolation prize. WQLJ-93.7 FM will rerun the 1999 Independence Bowl between Ole Miss and Oklahoma at the same time Alabama and Iowa State play this year's game in Shreveport, La. The Independence Bowl is Dec. 27. "This is a positive way of showing our displeasure in the bowl selection process that left our Rebels out of the postseason," said Brad Daniels, the station's sports director. Ole Miss finished the season 7-4, but for the first time in five years did not receive a bowl bid. Alabama was selected for the Independence Bowl with a 6-5 record that included a loss to Ole Miss. |
