Brandon Doman
Louisville's defense swarmed all over BYU QB Brandon Doman.

Now, this is the way to end a season. Louisville stymied BYU QB Brandon Doman, while Dave Ragone threw three TDs and the 22nd-ranked Cardinals thumped No. 17 BYU 28-10 for their first bowl victory since 1993. The victory is Louisville's 11th, it's most wins ever in one season.

WITH ROD GILMORE

Louisville got it done against BYU in the method I expected, with the Cardinals' secondary making the difference. They have three all-conference defensive backs and finished with three interceptions. Louisville put good pressure on BYU quarterback Brandon Doman and took away his passing lanes. The Cougars missed running back Luke Staley, whose absence deprived them of a tremendous weapon. But Louisville's defense was fantastic. I'm not sure if the outcome would have been any difference if Staley had played.

IT WAS OVER WHEN
When Dave Ragone threw a 34-yard TD pass to Deion Branch with 4:15 left in the third quarter to push the lead to double-digits. The way the Cardinal defense was playing, that was more than enough.
GAME BALL GOES TO
The Cardinal defense. The defense had four sacks, three interceptions and held BYU quarterback Brandon Doman to 18-of-37 for 192 yards. The defense repeatedly gave the Louisville offense a short field, and three of the Cardinals' TD drives were 54 yards or shorter.

LOUISVILLE CLUBHOUSE

The Cardinals finally can go home happy. With its AXA Liberty Bowl win over BYU on Dec. 31, UL finished off the best season in school history.
