TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Rod Smart and Shane Ricketts each rushed for more than 100 yards to lead Western Kentucky to a 40-34 overtime win Saturday over Indiana State.

Smart, who put the game away in the extra period with a 25-yard touchdown run, led all rushers with 151 yards on 27 carries for three touchdowns. Ricketts added 104 yards on 13 carries.

The Sycamores (3-7) took a 21-7 lead in the first quarter with runs by Calvin Thomas and Jared Sessum and a 53-yard punt return with 3:13 left.

The Hilltoppers (6-4) scored 19 points in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead at the half. During the quarter, Jeff Poisel hit a 31-yard field goal and a 21-yard fumble return by Donnell Hamilton.

Western Kentucky got two more points from the defense with 2:55 remaining in the second quarter on a safety. Twenty seconds later, Alan Ogletree scored on a 71-yard pass from Jason Michael.

In the fourth quarter, Marques Clayton scored on a 21-yard pass from Sheraton Fox to put Indiana State ahead 26-21 with 6:49 remaining. Fox completed 8-of-12 passes for 111 yards.

Smart put the Hilltoppers on top again at the 2:51 mark on a 44-yard run. With 43 seconds left, Thomas ran for eight yards to bring the Sycamores within one, 34-33.

Mike Megyesi nailed the extra point to send the game to overtime.
