BOSTON (AP) _ Brandon Carson caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Hoffman with 1:17 left as Penn beat Harvard 21-17 Saturday.

Harvard (5-4, 3-3 Ivy League) rallied with 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and took a 17-14 lead with 9:13 remaining on Mike Giampaolo's 42-yard field goal.

But after a fumble by Harvard at Penn's 37-yard line, the Quakers (5-4, 4-2) drove the length of the field in seven plays to set up the game-winning pass from Hoffman, who threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third in the win.

Penn opened the scoring when Hoffman, 29 of 48 for 348 yards, hit Rob Milanese with a 14-yard touchdown pass at 9:10 of the first quarter.

Penn's second touchdown was set up by Jim Hisgen's second interception of the game, and third of the season, at Harvard's 47-yard line. Hoffman scored on a 2-yard run with 11:16 left in the first half to take a 14-0 lead.

On Penn's first series of the fourth quarter, Harvard's Isiah Kacyvenski intercepted his fifth pass of the season. Seven plays later, the Crimson cut the lead to 14-7 when Brad Wilford threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Chris Eitzman. Wilford was 13 of 31 for 130 yards on the day.

Harvard tied the score when Terrence Patterson returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown with 6:29 left in the game.
