TAMPA, Fla. (AP)_Giovanni Carmazzi passed for three touchdowns and ran for two scores, leading Hofstra to a 42-23 victory over South Florida in a matchup of Division I-AA independents Saturday.

Carmazzi had 22-of-31 passing for 321 yards, eclipsing the 300-yard mark for the 13th time. The senior holds 11 school records, including 9,036 career passing yards.

Carmazzi needed only two minutes to put Hofstra (9-1) ahead for good, completing a 5-yard touchdown pass to Bill Morales.

The Flying Dutchmen doubled their lead 43 seconds into the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Jimmy Jones.

South Florida (7-4) answered with a 4-yard run by senior Dyral McMillan, who rushed 40 times for 221 yards to extend his school single-season record to 1,017.

Carmazzi gave Hofstra a 21-6 halftime lead on an 18-yard pass to Tom Kemper. He found Charlie Adams from 10 yards out late in the third quarter.

Marquel Blackwell kept South Florida close with touchdown passes to Rj Anderson and Richard Guerrero. He finished 12-of-30 for 162 yards.

Carmazzi sealed the victory with touchdown runs of 17 and 10 yards in the fourth quarter.

The Flying Dutchmen, undefeated in six road games, have won 13 of their last 15 away from Hofstra Stadium. The Bulls boast the same mark in their last 15 home games.
