AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) _ Jimmy Jones and Giovanni Carmazzi ran for touchdowns and Chad Johnson kicked two field goals as Hofstra beat Buffalo 20-13 on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen (8-1), an NCAA Division I-AA team, scored the first three times they had the ball, on a 17-yard run by Jones, a 46-yard run by quarterback Carmazzi and a 42-yard field goal by Johnson for a 17-0 first-quarter lead. Johnson added a 24-yard field goal with 11:49 left in the half.

Buffalo fought back from a 20-0 deficit with Joe Freedy's 22-yard pass to Andre Forde with 2:50 in the third quarter and Josh Roth's 15-yard run with 9:04 to play. Roth led Buffalo with 126 yards on 18 carries.

Bulls safety Craig Rohlfs intercepted Carmazzi's pass at midfield with 7:48 remaining, and John Glanton blocked a field goal with 1:56 to go, but Buffalo couldn't capitalize on either opportunity.

Buffalo (0-9, 0-7 Mid-American) lost its final home game of the season and 13th straight, its longest winless streak since the school went 22 games without a victory between the 1925 and 1928 seasons.

It was the closest Buffalo has come to a victory since it fell to Akron 17-10 in the season opener. The Bulls moved up a notch to Division I-A this season and have been outscored 333-103.

Hofstra, facing its only Division I-A opponent of the season, has lost only to Richmond. Hofstra suffered a team tragedy last Sunday when starting right tackle John Ciampi died apparently of a drug overdose, according to police.

The Bulls passed up several opportunities to kick field goals.

Buffalo drove to the Hofstra 2 late in the first quarter but Roth was stopped on fourth down by cornerback Robert Thomas and linebacker Sal Alosi.

The Bulls came up empty on the last play of the half when Freedy's pass from the 6 landed in the end zone. Buffalo was turned back on fourth-and-1 at the Hofstra 16 on its first possession of the second half.

Buffalo flanker Drew Haddad has caught passes in 34 straight games and became the school's career leader in all-purpose yards with 2,433. He had 10 catches for 141 yards.
