GRAMBLING, La. (AP) _ J.B. Lacombe's fourth field goal _ from 30 yards with one second remaining _ lifted Texas Southern to a 21-20 victory over Grambling State in a battle of unbeaten Southwestern Athletic Conference co-leaders Saturday. Lacombe also kicked field goals of 35, 53 and 37 yards as Texas Southern (5-3 overall, 3-0 SWAC) denied Grambling (5-3, 2-1) a victory that would have given GSU its first winning season since 1994. The lead changed hands three times and Texas Southern moved into position for LaCombe's game-winning field goal when Yves Eveillard returned a Grambling post-touchdown conversion 97 yards that trimmed GSU's lead to 20-18 with 6:17 left in the game. Ray Rubins, who gained 100 yards on 16 carries, and Texas Southern's defense also factored in to TSU's victory. Lionel Hayes anchored Grambling's offense, completing 17 of 35 passes for 204 yards, but the GSU ground attack produced just 68 yards.
