WASHINGTON (AP) _ J.J. Mont threw two scoring passes and Rob Belli rushed for a touchdown as Georgetown beat Fairfield 21-14 Saturday afternoon. Fairfield (6-2) entered the game averaging 35 points and 470 yards per game. But the Stags were held to 301 yards by the Hoyas (7-1, 5-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Georgetown turned a blocked field goal, an interception and a partially blocked punt into three touchdowns. Georgetown avenged a 24-17 loss to Fairfield last year that cost the Hoyas the MAAC title. The Stags are ineligible for the conference title this year, league-imposed punishment for an improper scholarship policy. Georgetown took a 7-0 lead when Mont's 7-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Brown capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive with 5:01 remaining in the first quarter. The drive followed Justin Haynes' blocked of a 33-yard field goal attempt by Fairfield's Stephen Mirasolo. Quarterback Jim Lopusznick moved the Stags 97 yards on the following series, tying the game on a 2-yard scoring pass to Joe Milligan 2:19 into the second quarter. Lopusznick finished 16-for-36 for 132 yards. Mont found Gharun Hester over the middle for a 24-yard touchdown. Hester's team-leading eighth touchdown pass of the season gave the Hoyas a 14-7 lead with 41 seconds left in the first half. Belli's 1-yard plunge 4:39 into the third quarter extended the lead to 21-7. Fairfield closed the gap to 21-14 when Jason Cowley recovered running back Jason Hannold's fumble in the end zone with 9:59 left in the game.
