BOX SCORE
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Justin Hill threw two touchdown passes to Des Kitchings and ran for a score Saturday as Furman beat North Carolina 28-3, its first victory over a major-college team in 14 years. Furman (7-1), the leader in the Division I-AA Southern Conference, last beat a I-A opponent in 1985, when the Paladins beat North Carolina State 42-20. North Carolina (1-7) lost its sixth straight and its first to a I-AA team since losing to Richmond 27-18 in 1978. Hill, 10-of-12 for 187 yards, completed all seven passes he threw in the first half. His first incomplete pass of the game _ the first in the second half -- stopped a school-record streak of 19 completions over two games. Hill's 4-yard touchdown run gave Furman a 28-3 lead with 8:32 remaining in the game. Furman's Louis Ivory ran 34 times for 177 yards. Furman took control early, rolling up 301 yards in the first half to North Carolina's 86. The Paladins led 21-0 with 5:14 to go in the first half after Hill's 49-yard touchdown pass to Kitchings, who finished with seven catches for 169 yards. North Carolina got a break in the final minutes of the second quarter when Hill fumbled at the Furman 38. Julius Peppers knocked the ball loose for the Tar Heels, and Sherrod Peace returned it 13 yards. North Carolina could move only 6 yards, and Josh McGee kicked a 36-yard field goal with 58 seconds to go to put the Tar Heels on the board, 21-3. Furman's first score came on Hill's 60-yard pass to Kitchings with 4:06 to go in the first quarter. The Paladins marched 80 yards for another touchdown to increase the lead to 14-0 with 9:20 to go in the second quarter. Bryant Huguley ran 38 yards on a reverse to put Furman at the Carolina 21, and Ivory went the final four yards for the score. | ALSO SEE College Football Scoreboard Furman Clubhouse North Carolina Clubhouse College football Top 25 overview
