TROY, Ala. (AP) _ Thaddeus Buttone scored four touchdowns and defensive back Chris Archie had three interceptions, both tying school records, as top-ranked Troy State defeated Sam Houston State 41-16 Saturday. The Trojans (7-0, 3-0 Southland Football League) outgained the Bearkats (3-4, 1-2) 407-254 in total offense and forced four turnovers. Sam Houston was hurt by the loss of quarterback Chris Chaloupka to an injury in the second quarter. Buttone scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter, then added a 36-yard reception of a scoring pass from Brock Nutter and a 1-yard TD run. Phillip Jones, who rushed eight times for 124 yards, also had a 53-yard touchdown run as the Trojans took a 28-3 halftime lead. Buttone's last touchdown of the day came on a 1-yard dash into the endzone in the second half. Lawrence Tynes added a pair of field goals, 36 and 26 yards. Sam Houston got a 37-yard field goal from Daniel Chappell and Eric Polk scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter. Albert Bradley hit Matt Dominguez with a 33-yard TD pass in the fourth. Buttone's four TDs matched a record held by 11 Troy State players, most recently Jones against Jacksonville State in 1997. Archie's interceptions tied a school record held by three Trojans: Ronnie Shelly against North Alabama in 1968, Tyrone Ferguson against Jacksonville State in 1976, Jerome Crowe against Northern Michigan in 1977. Nutter was 10 of 13 for 168 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions.
