BOX SCORE
SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Arizona State made its first visit here this afternoon and Notre Dame quarterback Jarious Jackson made sure it was not a pleasant one. The Sun Devils committed six turnovers and were out of contention before halftime as Jackson threw for four touchdowns and ran for another to lead Notre Dame to a 48-17 rout. After a scoreless first quarter, Stephen Baker hit the left upright with a 24-yard field-goal attempt just over a minute into the second period, blowing a chance to give the Sun Devils the lead. Jackson and Notre Dame never looked back. Jackson capped an 80-yard, six-play drive with a 42-yard TD pass to Bobby Brown with 11:06 remaining in the first half and the Sun Devils began giving away the game on their next possession. Ryan Kealy lofted a pass into the right flat which Notre Dame safety A'Jani Sanders stepped in front of and took 28 yards for a TD and a 14-0 lead for the Irish (3-3). Jackson threw for two more second-quarter scores, hitting Dan O'Leary with a six-yard strike and finding Joey Getherall from 25 yards out after Kealy's third interception, making it 27-0 at the half. Notre Dame held a 239-238 edge in total yardage at the half but was able to take control of the contest by holding onto the football and forcing the Sun Devils into five turnovers. Jackson, who completed 10-of-17 passes for 223 yards, opened the second-half scoring with a 48-yard TD jaunt. He ran for 93 yards on nine carries, giving him 316 of Notre Dame's 450 total yards. The senior signal-caller capped his spectacular day with a 31-yard TD pass to Jay Johnson that made it 48-7 with 11:31 to play. The Irish, who suffered three straight crushing losses after a season-opening rout of Kansas, have won their last two home games and 12 of 13 at South Bend overall. Kealy was 18-of-30 for 196 yards and three picks for Arizona State (2-3), which suffered a 28-9 home loss to Notre Dame in the first meeting between the schools last year. Julius Jones' six-yard TD run with 9:48 left in the third quarter gave Notre Dame a 41-0 lead before ASU finally got on the board on Gerald Green's one-yard plunge just over five minutes later.
