CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Clemson and North Carolina are heading towards opposite ends of the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.

Travis Zachery ran for 129 yards and a first-quarter touchdown and Clemson intercepted Ronald Curry four times in a 31-20 victory over the Tar Heels.

The Tigers (2-2) won just three league games last season but are off to a 2-0 start in conference play this season with impressive victories over the Tar Heels and Virginia. North Carolina (1-3, 0-3 ACC) has finished over .500 in league play each of the last three seasons.

For the second straight game, North Carolina lost to a team coached by a member of the Bowden family. The Tar Heels were crushed, 42-10, last weekend by Bobby Bowden's top-ranked Florida State squad. Bobby's son, Tommy Bowden, has the Tigers 2-0 in ACC play for the first time since 1988.

While Curry was ineffective, the Tigers received a strong effort from their quarterback tandem of Woodrow Dantzler and Brandon Streeter. The duo combined to complete 15-of-26 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown with one interception.

Clemson took over the game by scoring two touchdowns in a 2:16 span of the third quarter.

Daniel Davis' seven-yard run had given North Carolina a 17-10 lead, but Dantzler hit Rod Gardner for a 49-yard score and Terry Witherspoon plowed his way for a one-yard touchdown with 7:50 remaining in the period to put the Tigers on top.

Josh McGee's 21-yard field goal 3 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter brought North Carolina within 24-20, but Dantzler broke loose for a 56-yard run almost three minutes later that completed the scoring.

McGee also connected on a 39-yard field goal early in the second quarter that gave North Carolina a 10-3 lead, but Chris Campbell converted from 21 yards with 17 seconds left in the half to tie it.

Clemson snapped a three-game losing streak to the Tar Heels and leads the all-time series, 30-17-1.
