MUNCIE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Lavel Bailey's 28-yard touchdown catch triggered a 24-point second quarter as Akron posted a 31-9 Mid-American Conference victory over Ball State. Bailey's score capped a 13-play, 96-yard drive that chewed up almost six minutes and gave the Zips a 7-0 lead. Brandon Payne scored on a two-yard touchdown run just under six minutes later for a 14-point advantage. After Mike Hughes' eight-yard fumble return gave Akron a 21-0 cushion, Zac Derr capped the onslaught with a 35-yard field goal just before halftime. James Washington completed 10-of-24 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown for Akron (3-2, 2-1 MAC), which outgained Ball State, 418-243. Brian Conn was 8-of-16 for 76 yards and two interceptions for the Cardinals (0-5, 0-2), who have dropped 11 straight dating to last season and 15 of their last 16 overall.
