HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Ketric Sanford rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns and Mike Green added 129 yards on just eight carries as Houston routed Louisiana-Lafayette, 45-0, for its first shutout in nearly 10 years.

The blanking was Houston's first since a 64-0 shutout of Rice on December 2, 1989.

Sanford capped an eight-play, 58-yard drive with an eight-yard TD run midway through the first quarter to get the Cougars rolling.

Jason McKinley found William Pettis with a 37-yard scoring strike with 4:56 left in the second quarter and Mike Clark kicked a 22-yard field goal before halftime to give Houston a 17-0 lead.

McKinley completed 9-of-15 passes for 109 yards for Houston (2-1), which rebounded from last week's 37-10 loss to Alabama. The Cougars outgained the Ragin' Cajuns, 465-109, holding them to just 67 passing yards.

Both Derek Dyer and Barton Folse were ineffective for Louisiana-Lafayette (0-3), combining to complete just 10-of-19 passes. Darren Brister led the anemic rushing attack with 52 yards on 20 carries.

The Ragin' Cajuns have been outscored 107-20 this season.

Sanford scored on a five-yard run 2 1/2 minutes into the second half and Green's seven-yard scamper four minutes later extended Houston's cushion to 31-0.
