LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ Ja'Quay Wilburn ran for 151 yards and Jason Attaway threw for a touchdown to lead North Texas to a 21-14 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.

Attaway, who finished with 76 yards passing, connected with Broderick McGrew on a 46-yard TD pass with 4:38 left in the third quarter to put North Texas (1-2) up 21-7.

Before the catch, McGrew had only three receptions for 18 yards this season.

Texas Tech (1-2) struck back on the first play of the fourth quarter on Shaud Williams' 24-yard run, capping an 11-play, 88-yard drive to make it 21-14.

With 8:14 left in the second quarter, Wilburn burned the Red Raiders' defense for 81 yards on a delayed run down the sideline to the 4-yard line. Moments later, Michael Hickmon dived into the end zone from the 1 for a 14-7 lead.

Both teams began the game in less than impressive fashion, registering only 37 yards each in total offense in the first quarter.

Less than two minutes into the second quarter, Tech's Rob Peters tried to slip a pass through heavy traffic to Kyle Allamon, but was intercepted by Jeff Rodgers at the Tech 27. Rodgers ran the interception in for a touchdown.

Texas Tech was in North Texas territory just twice in the first half.

The second drive, which came with under a minute left in the half, ended when Peters was sacked on the North Texas 27. The clock ran out with the field goal unit scrambling onto the field.

Williams, playing for injured Ricky Williams, rushed for 151 yards. Peters had 171 yards passing for Texas Tech.
