BOULDER, Colo. (AP) _ Mike Moschetti passed for a school-record 465 yards and Cortlen Johnson ran for three touchdowns as Colorado outslugged San Jose State 63-35 Saturday.

Embarrassed by in-state rival Colorado State 41-14 in their opener last week, the Buffaloes wasted no time taking control against San Jose State (0-2), scoring on their first four possessions to race to a 28-0 lead just 11:12 into the game.

In the first game on natural grass at Folsom Field since 1970, Moschetti passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as Colorado built a 42-15 halftime lead.

Moschetti, who completed 25 of 32 passes, broke the Colorado passing record of 457 yards set by Koy Detmer against Missouri in 1996. With 34 yards rushing, Moschetti had 499 total yards to break that mark as well, the same 457 by Detmer.

Colorado's 767 yards established another school mark, eclipsing the 758 Colorado generated against Northeast Louisiana in 1995. The 767 yards also represented the most ever against San Jose State; the previous high allowed by the Spartans was 734 yards by Washington in 1996. It was the most points allowed by San Jose since Stanford scored 63 in 1969.

The quick-striking Buffs needed only 1:00, 3:41, 1:17 and 1:56 on their four touchdown drives in the first period.

Moschetti capped the first one, rolling right and running 12 yards for the TD. Moments later, tight end Daniel Graham got behind safety Travis Seaton and hauled in a 23-yard TD pass.

Moschetti passed 63 yards to Marcus Stiggers to set up the first of two straight 1-yard scoring runs by Johnson.

San Jose opened up in the second quarter, spreading the field and mixing passes and draw plays by running back Deonce Whitaker. Chris Kasteler's 26-yard pass to Casey LeBlanc set up Whitaker's spinning 8-yard scoring run midway through the quarter.

Whitaker capped an 80-yard drive with a 6-yard reception later the quarter. But Colorado also scored twice before the half, on Damion Barton's 3-yard run and Moschetti's 65-yard pass to Stiggers.

At halftime, Colorado had 443 total yards to the Spartans' 226.

After the teams traded third-quarter touchdowns, Johnson finished off an 80-yard drive with an 11-yard run early in the final quarter, and Barton's 15-yard TD run made it 63-22 with 6:54 left.

Spartans backup quarterback Brennan Crooks threw touchdown passes of 21 yards to Steven Pulley and 3 yards to Kenny Nears in the closing minutes.

San Jose wound up with 507 total yards.
