CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) _ Ken Simonton fumbled the ball away on the first play, then redeemed himself by scoring two touchdowns in Oregon State's mistake-filled 46-23 victory over Fresno State on Saturday.

Junior college transfer Imani Percoats added two touchdowns for Oregon State, the first of his Division I career, on passes of 19 and 18 yards from quarterback Jonathan Smith.

Fresno State took a 7-0 lead after Simonton's fumble, scoring in three plays on a 25-yard pass from Billy Volek to flanker Rodney Wright just over a minute into the game.

Simonton, who ran 31 times for 178 yards, wasn't alone when it came to mistakes.

Fresno State punter Joel Comfort bobbled the ball in the end zone for a safety at 7:33 in the first quarter, and a second snap sailed over his head for another safety 14 plays later with 4:31 left in the period, giving Oregon State a 13-7 lead.

Less than three minutes later, Fresno State's Josh Coleman blocked Mike Fessler's punt and Tierre Sams picked it up to score from three yards to make it 14-13 for the Bulldogs with 1:57 left in the first quarter.

Then it was Oregon State's turn. Linebacker Darnell Robinson picked off a deflected pass and returned it 24 yards early in the second quarter to put the Beavers ahead for good 19-14.

After the first safety, Oregon State took the free kick and marched 62 yards in six plays, with Simonton scoring on a 5-yard run. His 6-yarder capped a 50-yard, seven-play drive just before halftime that made it 26-14.

After Jeff Hanna's field goal made it 26-17 at 9:05 in the third quarter, Volek drove Fresno State 40 yards in six plays, making it 39-23 on a 15-yard pass to Paris Gaines with 5:28 to play.

Percoats added a second TD pass with 2:50 to play.
