HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) _ Don McDowell completed 17 of 28 passes for 211 yards to lead Bucknell in a 21-16 win over Colgate Saturday in the Patriot League.

McDowell threw for a touchdown and ran for one as Bucknell dominated much of the game. The Bisons (2-0, 1-0 Patriot League) scored on two long drives and an interception set up a third touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Bucknell also scored a safety.

Trailing 21-3 with less than four minutes left, Colgate quarterback Ryan Vena engineered two touchdown drives to bring the Red Raiders (1-1, 0-1) within five points with 1:04 to play. Colgate recovered the ensuing onside kick, but lost possession when it was ruled that the ball did not travel the necessary ten yards.

Bucknell opened up a 12-0 lead in the second quarter when McDowell ran for a 3-yard touchdown, then threw a 14-yard pass to Dan Palko for another. The second score came one play after safety George Cowan's interception gave the Bisons the ball.

Leading 12-3 at the half, Bucknell recorded another touchdown on an 11-yard pass from McDowell to fullback Mark Wyland. Linebacker Shawn Redd tackled Vena in the end zone at 9:44 of the fourth quarter for the safety.

Colgate's scored in the first half after a six-minute drive ended in a 23-yard field goal by Eric Kutschke.

Vena completed 16 of 27 passes for 186 yards. It was the Colgate quarterback's 29th consecutive game with a touchdown pass.
