As North Carolina waits for a decision from Kansas coach Roy Williams, another possible candidate is becoming torn with all of the speculation.

According to a report in the Philadelphia Daily News, Sixers coach Larry Brown said is in between a rock and a hard place as talk still centers around him being a possible candidate if Williams pulls out of the running.

"It's tough for me," Brown told the newspaper. "I hear my name, but I don't know where I'd be on the list. They passed me up one time (when Matt Doherty was hired 3 years ago). It's been a bad two weeks for me (because of the speculation).

North Carolina contacted Kansas on Wednesday about speaking with Williams, but UNC athletic director Dick Baddour issued a statement Thursday saying the two parties would speak through the weekend.

The Tar Heels are looking for a replacement for Matt Doherty, who resigned April 1 with three years left on his contract.

It was unclear whether Williams was leaning toward staying with the Jayhawks or returning to North Carolina, where he was an assistant under Dean Smith for a decade. Baddour said Williams had not been offered the job and the school would pursue other candidates in the next few days.

And one of the names in the mill has been Brown, who told the newspaper that he is happy in Philadelphia.

"But I have a job I'm comfortable with, and I've been treated unbelievably. From a coaching standpoint, nobody has a better situation than me. I just want to see it end, have some closure to it."
