Wooden candidates announced

Notre Dame's Troy Murphy and Duke's Shane Battier were among 30 candidates named Friday for the John R. Wooden Award.
Six schools had two players on the list: Stanford (Casey Jacobsen, Jarron Collins), Duke (Battier, Jason Williams) Illinois (Cory Bradford, Frank Williams), Arizona (Loren Woods, Michael Wright), Michigan State (Charlie Bell, Jason Richardson) and Tennessee (Vincent Yarbrough, Tony Harris).
The award is named for the three-time college basketball All-American and 10-time national championship coach for UCLA.
The Midseason Top 30 is based on player performance through the first half of the season. Players who do not make this list are still eligible for consideration for the Wooden Award.
Ballots are sent out to more than 1,000 voters on March 5. The voters will select The Wooden Award All-American Team and determine which player will receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the outstanding collegiate basketball player. In total, 81 players received votes for the midseason Top 30, and six players who weren't mentioned in the preseason Top 50 list made this list, including Seton Hall's Eddie Griffin and Missouri's Kareem Rush.
The Award presentation, which will include the presentation of the Wooden Award All-America team, will be held at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. ET.
