UNLV Runnin' Rebels
RECORD: 23-8 COACH: Billy Bayno | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round: Lost to Tulsa, 89-62

    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the UNLV playbook.

UNLV had a great regular season, tying Utah for the Mountain West Conference crown. The Runnin' Rebels are very good in transition. They are sixth in the nation in scoring and have as powerful a 1-2 punch as any team around -- with Kaspars Kambala and Mark Dickel.

Kambala is a power player who can run. He is built like a WWF wrestler, and he can finish. Meanwhile, Dickel leads the nation in assists, and at least three or four of those assists a game come in transition. He advances the ball up the floor as quickly as anyone in the country and then can really deliver.

If a team can't get back and run with the Runnin' Rebels for 40 minutes and take away their initial transition game, it will be a long night. The Rebels don't defend as well as Bill Bayno would like. They have good offensive players in the starting five, but defensively they haven't always committed. It was obvious in Utah two weeks ago. But Bayno is trying to get their attention. UNLV is a dangerous team because it has athletes. -- Jimmy Dykes, ESPN
