St. John's playbook: Spring Storm

St. John's stormed its way through the end of February and is hoping to change the popular "April showers bring May flowers" to something like, "Spring Storms bring National Championships."

St. John's has weathered storms of its own, including multiple suspensions to star point guard Erick Barkley. But with or without Barkley, Bootsy Thornton is an explosive scorer who can put the Storm on his shoulders and take over a game.

(A) St. John's uses good spacing on the perimeter to give its scorers room to operate. All the Storm are athletic, and they make up for their lack of size with quickness and ball-handling ability at all five positions.
(B) Bootsy Thornton (14) clears out the side when Reggie Jessie (41) gets the ball on the wing, giving Jessie the entire side to take his defender one-on-one.

(C) Jessie (41) penetrates into the paint, and if he gets stopped, he dishes to Anthony Glover (22).
(D) Glover plays in the middle, but he can put the ball on the floor, too. He takes the ball strong to the rack and stirs up the Storm with a strong finish.
