SANTA BARBARA, California (Ticker) -- Jarron Collins had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 13 Stanford to a 62-49 victory over Santa Barbara.

David Moseley added 10 points and Ryan Mendez and Casey Jacobsen scored seven apiece for Stanford (3-0), which won its 14th straight Big West Conference game and ran its road record to 21-4 over the last three seasons.

"Anytime you go on the road against a good crowd and a well-prepared team who plays hard and is competitive, it's a good win," Stanford Mike Montgomery said. "This was like a conference road atmosphere. When you play a tough road schedule at the beginning of the season, there's going to be some growing pains."

The Cardinal has won 12 straight games over University of California teams.

Mark Hull scored 13 points and Juliano Jordani had eight points and eight rebounds for Santa Barbara (0-1), which has dropped two season-openers in a row since winning seven straight.

"I think we showed a lot of early-season jitters," Santa Barbara coach Bob Williams said. "We didn't shoot well and we forced chances. I'm proud that we competed. I would have liked to see our returners step up a little more. We turned the ball over way too much against a good team (18). We competed pretty hard for 40 minutes. I think this basketball team is going to be fine."

The Cardinal owned a 25-21 lead after halftime but Santa Barbara moved within one point when Derrick Allen made a layup with 15:51 left. However, Mendez responded with a jumper that keyed a 5-0 run that gave Stanford a 32-29 lead.

B.J. Ward's two free throws got the Gauchos within three points but Julius Barnes converted two from the free throw line to give the Cardinal a 43-36 advantage.

Stanford shot just 26 percent (15-for-57), including 4-for-25 (16 percent) from 3-point range, but went 28-for-39 from the free throw line and outrebounded Santa Barbara, 42-33.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well, and yet we were up at halftime," Montgomery said. "I was fearful of this game. The atmosphere built up. Santa Barbara played very hard and was very well prepared. We didn't know about what they were going to do. We hung in there with defense."
