BOX SCORE
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma State finally played they way coach Eddie Sutton thinks it can. Desmond Mason had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead a balanced attack that carried Oklahoma State (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) to an 81-50 victory over Idaho in the final game of the America's Youth Classic. "I thought he played very well at both ends of the floor tonight, but I thought the team played, probably, the best we've played," said Sutton, who has been displeased with the Cowboys' inconsistency during two exhibitions and a victory over Appalachian State. "I thought our defense was good, again we rebounded well, we got good play off the bench. That's why I think this team has a chance to be pretty good, because we do have more depth." Mason, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, looked the part while scoring inside and outside against the Vandals. He was 3-of-5 from 3-point range, 6-of-8 at the foul line and converted a couple of high-flying alley-oops to punctuate the easy victory. Joe Adkins scored all 17 of his points in the second half, when the Cowboys (2-0) built on their 13-point halftime lead. Doug Gottlieb had 13 assists. Brian Montonati had 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, helping the Cowboys outrebound Idaho 42-27. It was Montonati's second double-double in as many nights; he had 10 points and 11 rebounds on Friday night against Appalachian State. "Just as long as I focus on rebounding and playing good defense, everything else just falls into place," he said. Idaho (1-1) scored just one basket in the first 6½ minutes, going 1-for-8 and committing three of its 17 turnovers. Oklahoma State led 21-8 with 8:20 remaining in the half and had no worries the rest of the way. Idaho got within 33-25 on consecutive 3-pointers by Gordon Scott late in the half, but no closer. "They pretty well sliced us up," Idaho coach C. David Farrar said. "When you just look at the final score, it's pretty embarrassing. They thumped us pretty good." Scott finished with 17 points to lead the Vandals, who shot just 29 percent.
