BOX SCORE
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Adam Lopez scored 22 points and Ross Land had 20, three of them on an 85-foot shot at the halftime buzzer, as Northern Arizona won the Big Sky Conference tournament championship with an 85-81 overtime victory over Cal State Northridge.
NAU (20-10), which saw a 12-point lead evaporate in the last
seven minutes of regulation, will make its second trip to the NCAA
Tournament in three years.
The Matadors (20-10), led by Jeff Parris' 18 points, hope road
wins over Oregon and Fresno State will catch the eye of the NIT.
Parris and Andre Larry led the Matadors back from a 64-52
deficit in the last seven minutes, capped by Larry's 3-pointer with
1:35 remaining that tied the score at 70.
Markus Carr missed a short jumper with four seconds left in
regulation that would have given Northridge its first lead since
early in the first half.
Northern Arizona held the Matadors to one 3-pointer in the first
four minutes of overtime, while building leads of up to six points
-- the last time on two Lopez free throws with 33 seconds to go,
making it 81-75.
Carr's 3-pointer with four seconds to play cut the lead to
83-81, but Northridge called a time out it didn't have and was
assessed a technical foul.
NAU shot 59 percent from 3-point range, making 16 of 27, a
tournament record.
Both Lopez and tournament MVP Land made five each.
Dan McClintock added 17 points and Cory Schwab had 12 for the
Lumberjacks.
Carr had 16, Brian Heinle 14 and Larry 10 points for the
Matadors.
