BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- A.J. Guyton found his shooting touch in the second half Saturday, and that was fine for Indiana (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 AP).

Guyton, sixth on the Hoosiers' career scoring list, hit just 2-of-7 shots in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, the senior guard missed only one of seven attempts and finished 19 points in an 86-61 win over Minnesota.

"I got off to a slow start. Mainly because I wasn't setting up my cuts deep enough," Guyton said. "They went box-in-one, they made me work a little harder on offense and once I got in the grove, I played real hard."

Kirk Haston had 18 for Indiana. Joel Przybilla had 22 points for Minnesota and Kevin Burleson had 11.

Haston did most of his scoring with sweeping hook shots over the 7-foot Przybilla.

"He works to get that position deep inside. That's really key for him to shoot high percentage shots," Guyton said of Haston, who has scored in double figures for eight consecutive games.

Indiana broke open the game in the second half, making 20 of 29 shots.

We ran into one of the best teams in the country, especially the way they played," Minnesota coach Dan Monson said of the Hoosiers, coming off a disappointing 77-71 overtime loss at Michigan State. "We're a young basketball team trying to get better and more consistent. We have a long ways to go after today."

Jeffrey Newton and Michael Lewis had 12 apiece for the Hoosiers (12-2, 3-1 Big Ten) and Lewis contributed nine assists to move past Jamal Meeks and Damon Bailey into second place on Indiana's career list at 476. Quinn Buckner has the school record of 542.

"That's awfully tough to come back from," Indiana coach Bob Knight said of his team's Tuesday loss to the Spartans. "Our players really did a good job coming back off of that. They had to be sick about losing."

Indiana pulled away with big spurts in each half, the second an 11-4 run that included consecutive 3-pointers by Lewis and one by Guyton.

The Hoosiers had missed all of their 3-point attempts before Lewis connected for a 54-42 lead with 12:43 to play. Lewis made another with 11:38 to go and Indiana opened what was then its biggest lead, 62-44, on a layup and 3-pointer by Guyton.

Minnesota (10-4, 2-2) made its first four shots and five of its first seven, taking a 14-10 lead on a layup by Przybilla.

"Minnesota runs well and they run really well early. They jumped on us, and then we came back. From then on we probably played as well, and as consistently well during the course of a game as we've played all year."

The Golden Gophers went without a basket for more than six minutes as Indiana went on a 14-2 run, with Newton scoring six points, blocking two shots and adding a pair of assists. Minnesota, which made four turnovers, got its only points during the run on free throws by Przybilla.

Minnesota closed to 24-18 on a jumper by Terrance Simmons with 6:12 left in the half, its first basket since the Przybilla layup. The Gophers got no closer.
