'Noles, Buckeyes advance to Super Regionals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Stephen Drew homered twice and drove in four runs as Florida State hit seven home runs and cruised past South Alabama 12-2 on Sunday and advanced to the Super Regionals.

The win was the second of the day for the Seminoles (54-11-1), the No. 1 national seed, against the Jaguars, and sent Florida State to a matchup against defending national champion Texas.

Tony McQuade and Tony Richie hit back-to-back homers, and Jerrod Brown followed with a two-run shot in the first. Daniel Wardell hit his second pinch-hit homer in as many games in the seventh, and Bryan Zech also homered for the Seminoles in the eighth.

Cole Craig and Josh Touchstone each drove in a run for South Alabama (42-19).

Florida State 13, South Alabama 5
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Stephen Drew hit two doubles and had five RBI as Florida State staved off elimination by defeating South Alabama 13-5 in an NCAA regional game Sunday.

Daniel Davidson (10-0) pitched the Seminoles' second complete game of the regional, scattering five runs on 10 hits.

Florida State broke open a 3-3 game with an eight-run fifth inning, highlighted by Chris Hart's three-run double. Daniel Wardell and Jerrod Brown homered for the Seminoles.

Ryan Mulhern hit his 20th home run for the Jaguars.

Auburn Regional
AUBURN, Ala. -- Brett Garrard drove in four runs and Matt Davis pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth as Ohio State advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time since 1999 with a 9-7 win.

Drew Anderson, who homered four times in the first two games, had two doubles as the Buckeyes (44-19) beat Auburn (42-21), the No. 4 national seed, twice over the weekend and scored 25 runs in three regional games.

Ohio State will play the winner of the Lincoln regional in the next round.

Davis, who earned his third save of the regional, got Karl Amonite to fly out to center with the bases loaded in the eighth. In the ninth, Davis walked Clete Thomas to lead off the inning, but got Scott Schade to ground into a double play and Derek Sain popped up to end it.

Atlanta Regional
Kevin Melillo and South Carolina are taking aim at Omaha.
ATLANTA -- Steven Tolleson and Justin Harris each had three hits, and Steven Bondurant scattered eight hits over seven innings as South Carolina beat Stetson 9-3 on Sunday to advance to the super regionals for the fourth straight year.

The Gamecocks (42-20), who lost to Texas in the championship game of the College World Series last year, won three straight at the regional. It's the first time they've won a regional on the road in 10 attempts.

Bondurant (6-3) allowed three runs on eight hits. Landon Powell went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI and was named Most Outstanding Player of the regional.

Pete Rasmusen hit a solo homer for the Hatters (41-24), who were looking to advance to the Super Regionals for the first time.

Long Beach Regional
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Todd Jennings drove in three runs and Cesar Ramos pitched seven shutout innings as the Long Beach State beat Washington 7-2 and advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time.

Ramos (6-4) allowed just six hits, struck out one and walked none for the 49ers (41-18). Jennings went 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 26 games, one shy of the team record.

Long Beach State will take on Stanford in the Super Regionals.

Aaron Hathaway homered in the ninth for the Huskies (42-18).

Wilson Regional

WILSON, N.C. -- Colt Morton homered in the top of the 14th and Joe Gaetti scored an insurance run on a wild pitch as North Carolina State advanced to the Super Regionals with a 6-4 victory over Western Carolina.

Matt Camp went 3-for-6 with three RBI for the Wolfpack (45-16), who are two wins away from their second appearance in the College World Series and first since 1968. North Carolina State will play the winner of the Coral Gables Regional.

Matt Nelson drove in all four runs, including a game-tying two-run single in the sixth, for the Catamounts (43-21), who played in the longest game in school history.

Starkville Regional
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Sean Farrell tied it with a two-run homer in the ninth and drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the 11th as North Carolina advanced to the super regionals with a 8-6 victory over Mississippi State in 11 innings.

Farrell was 4-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI to lead the Tar Heels (42-21), who had 18 hits. North Carolina entered the eighth trailing 6-3, but Wes Moyer hit an RBI single to make it 6-4. In the ninth, Greg Mangum hit an RBI double and Farrell homered for the second time to tie it.

The Tar Heels will play South Carolina in the Super Regionals.

Craig Tatum was 3-for-4 with three RBI for Mississippi State (42-20).

Coral Gables Regional
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Ryan Braun tripled, doubled twice and scored three runs as Miami defeated Florida to advance to the Super Regionals.

Miami (42-15-1), which extended its NCAA record by winning a regional for the 10th straight year, will play North Carolina State in next weekend's Super Regional.

Ben Harrison and Mario Garza each had three hits and two RBI for the Gators (37-21-1), who were eliminated in the NCAA regional round by Miami for the second straight year.

In the first game, Brian Rose hit his second grand slam of the regionals, and Florida forced an elimination game against Miami with a 15-5 win, which matched its largest postseason margin of defeat in school history.

Rose had five RBI, Jeff Corsaletti homered and drove in four runs and Ben Harrison had three hits and three RBI for Florida, which snapped Miami's 18-game postseason home winning streak.

Lincoln Regional
Nebraska slid past Southwest Missouri State in the opener, but the Bears are moving on.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Bob Zimmermann scattered five hits and struck out seven in the first complete game of his career, and Southwest Missouri State beat Nebraska to advance to the Super Regionals for the first time.

Zimmermann, who hadn't started since April 27, retired 10 in a row before Joe Simokaitis' single with one out in the fourth inning. Tony Piazza homered for the Bears (38-24).

The Huskers (47-18), who lost to SMS 4-2 on Saturday, needed to beat the Bears twice Sunday to advance to the super regionals for a fourth year in a row.

In the first game, Jamie Rodrigue pitched 7 1/3 strong innings and Joe Simokaitis drove in three runs as Nebraska staved off elimination with a 9-5 win.

Rodrigue (1-1), who struggled with injuries this season, scattered 10 hits, walked one and struck out four while allowing five runs to win his first decision since May 18, 2002.
