Brown to undergo more tests for intestinal disorder

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown and star guard Allen Iverson both will miss at least part of the team's upcoming four-game road trip for health reasons.

In Iverson's case, he won't be on hand for the start of the trip because of a hip pointer. He returned to the lineup in a 100-79 loss against the Sacramento Kings on Friday night after missing one game with the injury.

Iverson scored 28 points against the Kings on 11-for-28 shooting, but was to miss the team's flight to Milwaukee to undergo more treatment.

Brown will miss at least the start of the road trip while he undergoes tests back in Philadelphia for a gastrointestinal disorder.

The Sixers confirmed that Brown would miss Saturday's game at Milwaukee, along with a Monday game in Seattle.

"I'm going for some tests so I might not accompany the team on Monday," Brown said after the team's loss to the Kings.

Brown would not elaborate on his condition, but Dr. Jack McPhilemy, the team physician, acknowledged that Brown has acid reflux and doctors want to test him further and perhaps adjust his medication for the condition. Dr. McPhilemy discounted possible heart problems, saying that a recent cardiac workup was normal.

After games in Milwaukee and Seattle, the Sixers have a Tuesday game in Los Angeles against the Clippers and close out the trip in Phoenix on Friday.

Iverson was injured against Boston last Sunday. He missed the second half of that game and sat out Wednesday's 85-67 victory at Chicago.

McPhilemy said Iverson could join the team during the trip.

"I don't think he was 50 or 60 percent, but he tried to win the game," Brown said.

In December, Iverson returned only five days after dislocating his shoulder, an injury that was expected to keep him out 1-to-3 weeks. He's also missed games this season because of injuries to his knee and right hip.

Iverson leads the league in scoring, averaging 31.1 points per game.
