| | HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich and owner Les Alexander reached a verbal agreement Thursday that should keep the coach in charge until 2005.
ESPN's David Aldridge confirmed that the sides had agreed to a deal.
Tomjanovich, in his 30th year with the Rockets organization, has one season
remaining on his current four-year, $18-million contract.
"We expect it will take the better part of the next week for the lawyers to finalize the details," Rockets vice president Carroll Dawson told the Houston Chronicle.
Tomjanovich is 374-252 after nine seasons with the Rockets and
led the team to back-to-back championships in 1993-94 and 1994-95.
He is the winningest coach in franchise history.
His number was retired in 1982 after he played 11 seasons with
the Rockets. He is the third-leading scorer in franchise history
with 13,383 points and was a five-time NBA All-Star.
