| | PORTLAND, Ore. -- Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown was
ejected at halftime of Thursday night's 108-90 loss to the Portland
Trail Blazers after a heated argument with the officials.
Allen Iverson was dribbling the ball with the half winding down
when he had the ball stripped by Portland's Steve Smith. Rasheed
Wallace picked it up and threw to Smith for an easy layup that gave
the Blazers a 56-41 halftime lead.
"Everybody in the gym knew it was a foul," Iverson said. "For
there to be two referees on the court and nobody make the call,
that's bad."
With the rest of the players heading toward the locker room,
Iverson and Brown began yelling at referee Tommie Wood for not
calling a foul. Brown was hit with a technical foul by another
official.
Brown began to walk toward the visitors' locker room, after Wood
said something to him, Brown turned and started yelling at him
again. Brown had to be restrained by his assistant coaches as he
and Wood got closer to each other, and Brown was hit with his
second technical, resulting in an automatic ejection.
"I've heard this comment all year: 'It's not my call,' " Brown
said. "The one ref said that to me, and that's when I went off.
The ref underneath told me he missed the call. That was such an
obvious foul."
Brown got his 700th NBA coaching victory in Wednesday night's
97-94 at Golden State. | |
