"B. J. McKie is a tough competitor and a winner. He stayed four years and helped put Gamecock basketball back on the map, bringing an SEC title home during his tenure. This past year, however, McKie had no help whatsoever. South Carolina ran motion offense for 25 seconds of the shot clock and, often, ran a high screen or a 1-4 low set for McKie.
McKie is a great collegiate scorer, but he is by no means a great shooter. He does not have consistent range, and he does not have the quickness to blow by a defender to get to the basket or pull up. What McKie has is good strength with the ball, the ability to get into the lane and draw fouls and step to the line.
Like Trajan Langdon, McKie struggles to get his own shot and will have difficulty staying with NBA guards on the defensive end. Following the graduation of Melvin Watson, McKie was forced to play the point, and the experiment did not fare well, as McKie is not a point guard. McKie is a decent passer, but only an adequate handler at best."
