Duncan went on to score San Antonio's first six overtime points, but the Kings limited the rest of the Spurs, claiming a 107-105 win Thursday night and an NBA record for overtime victories in a season.

"We were just patient," said Chris Webber, who had 26 points before fouling out and sending Duncan to the line at the end of regulation. "We knew Tim was going to score. We just tried to control the boards and control everyone else. We did a pretty good job of doing that."

After Antonio Daniels hit a 3-pointer with 54 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Spurs a 105-103 lead, Vlade Divac answered with a layup to tie it.

When Danny Ferry missed a 16-foot jumper with 13.7 seconds left, Peja Stojakovic sealed Sacramento's win with a running jump shot from 7 feet with 2.4 seconds left.

Sacramento won its ninth overtime game and extended its winning streak to five games while snapping the Spurs' five-game winning streak.

The Kings trail the Spurs by 1 1/2 games in the race for the best record in the league. San Antonio has the NBA's best record at 56-23 with three games remaining. Sacramento is 54-24 with four games remaining.

Duncan finished with 42 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots.

Webber had 13 rebounds, six assists and two blocks.

The Spurs had surged ahead five times by as many as 13 points, but each time the Kings fought back.

"It looked like they had control a number of times, and we just wouldn't go away," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.

Sacramento grabbed its first lead since the first quarter early in the fourth, 76-75, when Hidayet Turkoglu made a layup and free throw.

Duncan answered with a long jumper, and the Spurs built their lead back to seven points.

Sacramento's final push was the one that mattered. Bobby Jackson hit two 3-pointers and then stripped the ball from Daniels for a layup as the Kings took a 92-90 lead.

With Sacramento up 96-92, Terry Porter hit a 3-pointer for the Spurs. Then, with 4.3 seconds to go, Webber fouled out, and Duncan made one of two free throws to tie the game at 96 and force overtime.

"To get so close like we did is really frustrating," said Derek Anderson, who finished with 14 points. "We can take a lot from this game. We need to work on our execution and our toughness."

Daniels added 15 points for San Antonio.

Divac had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Kings, while Stojakovic finished with 16.

"This was a game that shows our guys what it's going to be like in the playoffs," said Spurs guard Avery Johnson. "There won't be any cakewalks."

Webber and Divac struggled to contain Duncan, who scored 23 points in the first half and led the Spurs to a 53-44 advantage. Duncan had two one-handed dunks and was there when Anderson's 3-pointer bounced off the rim. He grabbed the rebound and tossed it in.

Duncan stood at the free throw line at the end of the first half after being fouled with less than a second to go. Just before he took his first shot (which he made), the Alamodome sellout crowd of 34,357 chanted, "MVP! MVP!"

The Spurs are 2-4 in overtime games. ... The Spurs and Kings split their season series, 2-2. ... Sacramento is one win shy of the franchise record set by the 1963-64 Cincinnati Royals. ... The Spurs play their last home game of the season Saturday against the Denver Nuggets, who are 2-1 against San Antonio this year. ... With nine points, David Robinson moved past Bob Lanier into 30th place on the NBA's career scoring list. He has 19,256 points.
