CHICAGO (AP) – Jerry Stackhouse put up Jordan-esque numbers in
the United Center on Tuesday night.

Stackhouse scored an NBA season-high 57 points as the Detroit
Pistons won their third straight, 110-83 over the Chicago Bulls.
Stackhouse set a United Center single-game scoring record,
surpassing the 53-point performance by Michael Jordan in March
1996.
"It feels great to be in that kind of company as a scorer,"
said Stackhouse, whose previous career high was 46, set against the
Lakers on March 15. "It's the most points I've scored in my whole
life."
Stackhouse was 21-for-36 from the field and 11-for-13 from the
line in breaking Kelly Tripucka's team record of 56 points, set in
1984 against the Bulls. Philadelphia's Allen Iverson scored 54
earlier this season.
"The best part of the night was how the guys tried to get me
the ball," Stackhouse said. "Once they knew about the (team)
record, they just kept getting the ball to me."
Stackhouse's career-best is the highest single-game performance
in the NBA since Shaquille O'Neal had 61 against the Los Angeles
Clippers on March 6, 2000.
Chucky Atkins added 19 points and Ben Wallace had 20 rebounds to
help Detroit match its longest winning streak of the season.
The Pistons led by 13 after one quarter, with Stackhouse
outscoring the Bulls 24-20. Stackhouse made 8-of-11 from the field
_ 2-of-3 from 3-point range -- and made all six of his free throws
for Detroit's record scoring in a quarter.
A perceived insult was all it took to get Stackhouse going.
"Ron Artest told me at the beginning of the game that (Bulls)
coach (Tim) Floyd said he didn't respect my game and he wasn't
going to double-team me," Stackhouse said. "Maybe next time."
Stackhouse first beat Artest, considered the Bulls' best
defender, then moved on to Corey Benjamin -- who picked up four
fouls in six minutes -- before cooling off against Fred Hoiberg.
A 3-pointer by A.J. Guyton cut the lead to 50-45 with 1:34 left
in the half, but Corliss Williamson's jumper gave the Pistons a
56-47 halftime lead. Stackhouse, who averaged 29.6 points, had 29
at the break, a Detroit season-high.
With Detroit leading 61-53 in the third, Pistons coach George
Irvine was ejected by official Luis Grillo for arguing a call.
Assistant David Twardzik took over.
The Bulls got within five, but were scoreless for nearly all of
the last five minutes of the quarter.
Stackhouse scored eight points in a 12-3 run that closed the
quarter. Detroit led 89-71 after three.
Chicago closed within 94-82 in the fourth before Detroit seized
control with a 16-1 run over the final 6:15.
"We had a pathetic performance tonight and it started in the
first five minutes," Floyd said. "We obviously didn't do a good
job on Stackhouse. Couldn't guard him. I thought, refused to."
The crowd cheered as Stackhouse added to his totals in the
waning minutes.
"If our fans were enjoying it, based on what they saw from our
club based on the first three quarters, so be it," Floyd said. "I
do have a problem with their guy going to the rim every time he
wanted to go to the rim."
The Bulls, led by Jamal Crawford's 17 points, have lost four in
a row and 13 of 14.
Game notes
Isiah Thomas (three times) and Joe Dumars also scored 24 in
a quarter for the Pistons. ... The United Center record for points
in a quarter had been 21, scored by Scottie Pippen in March 1997.
... Tripucka set the old record also against the Bulls. ... Guard
Ron Mercer sat out with tendinitis in his right ankle.
