Nuggets win fifth straight

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Antonio McDyess had 31 points and 13 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets won their fifth straight game, beating the Vancouver Grizzlies 112-105 Tuesday night.

McDyess has recorded a double-double in nine straight games and 15 of his last 16.

The Grizzlies, who had led by as many as 13 points in the first half, found themselves down 101-92 with 4:28 left in the game. But a pair of 3-pointers by Mike Bibby and Damon Jones brought Vancouver to within three with 2:46 remaining.

After Raef LaFrentz made a short jumper, Shareef Abdur-Rahim hit a 3-pointer and Vancouver was within two with 2:15 left.

But 3-pointers by Nick Van Exel and Voshon Lenard, sandwiched a pair of free throws by Abdur-Rahim, put Denver ahead 109-103 with 1:20 left.

Vancouver guard Damon Jones hit a jumper to make it 109-105 with 1:08 remaining. Denver managed to get the ball back after two misses, and McDyess made a free throw.

LaFrentz finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Van Exel had 22 points and 11 assists.

Tracy Murray, held out of the Nuggets' last seven games, scored a season-high 17 points in 19 minutes.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 26 points and 13 rebounds. Bibby had 23 points and Michael Dickerson added 21.

The Grizzlies, down by a basket at halftime, went on a 12-2 run to start the third and led 63-55 with 8:50 left. Vancouver led 84-82 after three.

McDyess had 12 points as the Nuggets raced out to an 18-8 lead. Vancouver went on a 20-9 run to close the quarter and led 28-27 after one while McDyess went on to score 16 in the period.

Game notes
Nuggets forward George McCloud left the team on Monday and didn't play. He was excused to tend to a personal matter at home in Florida. He is averaging nine points per game. ... Vancouver got 44 rebounds and committed 16 turnovers. The Grizzlies had grabbed fewer than 40 rebounds a game in the last six games and had committed at least 18 turnovers in that same period. They were 2-4 in the six games. ... After starting the season 2-9 on the road, the Nuggets have rallied to win four of their last five. ... The Grizzlies are 7-14 at home.
