OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Antonio McDyess scored 25 points and
grabbed 17 rebounds for his sixth consecutive double-double as the
Denver Nuggets defeated the Golden State Warriors 111-100 Thursday
night for their first win in Oakland in nearly six years. Voshon Lenard added 23 points for the Nuggets, who hadn't won in
Oakland since April 22, 1995. Denver has won seven of its last
nine. Antawn Jamison had 26 points and 11 rebounds and Marc Jackson,
who was named NBA Rookie of the Month for December on Wednesday,
added 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Warriors failed in their bid
to record a three-game winning streak for the first time since last
February. George McCloud and Raef LaFrentz each had 13 points for the
Nuggets. Mookie Blaylock had 13 points and 10 assists and Larry Hughes
added 17 points for the Warriors. Robert Pack scored the first two baskets of the final quarter to
give the Nuggets a lead they never relinquished. Meanwhile, the
Warriors were limited to eight points in the first eight minutes of
the fourth quarter. Denver came out of halftime playing with more energy than the
Warriors and immediately took a 69-58 lead on McDyess' slam just
over four minutes into the third quarter, forcing Golden State to
call a timeout and regroup. Jamison went into the huddle shaking his head. He came out and
scored 11 points over the next six minutes to ignite a Warriors'
rally that gave them an 86-85 heading into the final quarter. The Warriors pulled to 51-50 with 4:32 left in the second
quarter following a 3-pointer from Mookie Blaylock, but then
McDyess took over the rest of the half, scoring on two slam dunks
and a layup in the next 1:20 to help the Nuggets take a 60-54 lead
at halftime. Bob Sura gave Golden State a 33-32 lead when he hit a lay-up as
time expired at the end of the first quarter. Notes: The Warriors requested waivers on forward Bill Curley
before the game. ... The Warriors scored 30 or more points in the
first quarter in consecutive games for the first time this season.
... Nuggets' second-year pro Keon Clark scored nine points and went
over the 1,000-point mark for his career. ... Denver improved to
5-0 when getting two or more days of rest. ... McDyess recorded his
15th double-double in the last 17 games.
