MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett scored 28 points and keyed the decisive second quarter as the Minnesota Timberwolves cruised to a 99-89 exhibition victory over the Indiana Pacers.

Garnett scored six points during a 16-5 run in the second period that put Minnesota ahead to stay. His hook shot capped the burst, giving the Timberwolves a 42-32 lead with 3:35 left before halftime.

Anthony Peeler scored six of his 10 second-quarter points in the pivotal tear and finished with 16, helping Minnesota (3-4) end a four-game preseason losing streak.

Malik Sealy scored 14 points and Terrell Brandon chipped in 12 and 10 assists for the Timberwolves, who held a 51-42 advantage at intermission and led by at least eight points throughout the second half.

Garnett grabbed eight rebounds, handed out six assists and made 12-of-17 shots as Minnesota went on 54 percent (43-of-79) from the field. Indiana hit just 39 percent (37-of-94).

Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose scored 13 points apiece for the Pacers (5-3), who were without starting center Rik Smits as he continues to battle a right thigh contusion.
