CLEVELAND (AP) _ Cedric Henderson scored 14 points and Andrew DeClercq had 9 of his 12 during a third-quarter surge Thursday night that sent the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 95-83 preseason win over the Washington Wizards. Jamel Thomas, an undrafted rookie free agent, added 13 points and Ryan Stack had 12 for the Cavs, who improved to 3-1 during the exhibition season. Gerard King led the Wizards (1-1) with 15 points and Chris Whitney had 14. Juwan Howard and rookie Richard Hamilton had 10 points apiece. Washington was without point guard Rod Strickland, who was fined an undisclosed amount by the team for missing practice Wednesday and did not make the trip to Cleveland. The Cavaliers, who were already missing starters Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Lamond Murray because of injuries, played without forward Shawn Kemp. Kemp came to the arena expecting to play but was sent home after coming down with the flu before the game. After making two free throws to put the Cavs up by 10, DeClercq scored on a dunk to make it 61-49 with 6:08 left in the third quarter. Cleveland outscored Washington 24-14 in the quarter to build a 72-57 lead entering the fourth. DeClercq added seven rebounds in the period. Cavs guard Brevin Knight left the game with 8:07 remaining after getting hit in the right ear by Howard's elbow. The Cavs said Knight was OK but was kept out for precautionary measures.
