CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) _ Jermaine O'Neal scored 22 points and rookie Roberto Bergersen had a key assist and 3-pointer in overtime to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a 124-115 exhibition victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday night.

Bonzi Wells added 20 points for the Blazers, who looked sluggish for most of the game before a 34-point fourth quarter tied it at 111-111 after regulation.

Shammond Williams had 20 points and Ruben Patterson 16 for the Sonics.

Gary Payton, returning to his old Oregon State campus, had 11 points and nine assists. Payton was also in midseason trash-talking form, jawing at anyone within earshot.

The Blazers were out of sync with new starters Scottie Pippen and Steve Smith and trailed 85-77 to start the fourth quarter. O'Neal tied it at 111 on a turnaround jumper with 52.1 seconds left.

In overtime, Bergersen fed former Sonic Detlef Schrempf underneath for a layup, then sank a 3-pointer to make it 116-111 with 3:52 left. Seattle got no closer.

Pippen had eight points and Smith nine, but the reserves showed more hustle than either of the high-priced stars. Bergersen, who played at Boise State last season, finished with seven points, all after the third quarter.

Portland's Rasheed Wallace had 10 of his 14 points in the third quarter, but was ejected in the fourth for picking up his second technical _ both for arguing from the bench.

Jelani McCoy added 14 points and Vin Baker 13 for the Sonics. Brent Barry, who also went to Oregon State, picked up three fouls in the first 40 seconds and finished with six points.

The Sonics were in much better shape than this time last year, when the overweight Baker plodded up the court. They simply outran the Blazers' starters in the first quarter, beating them down the floor with several easy fast-break baskets.

Seattle jumped to a 12-2 lead and shot 64 percent in the first quarter for a 33-21 lead. The reserves came in and cut it to one, but the Sonics used a 13-4 run to end the half with a 59-45 lead.
