SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The Sacramento Kings were feeling confident after beating the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamodome. "It's a good game for us to beat the defending champions on their floor," Chris Webber said after Sacramento's 108-103 victory Saturday. "It could be a springboard for us."
Webber scored 31 points and Jon Barry scored eight, including two 3-pointers, in overtime as the Kings won for the second time in their last seven. Webber made four shots and had nine points in the final 5:31 of the fourth quarter as the Kings fought from an 85-79 deficit to force overtime. "Webber played a great game," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "You've got to give him credit. He's really doing well at all phases of the game." Once into overtime, the game belonged to Barry. "Late in the game, I'm just looking for my shot and trying to play as smart as possible," Barry said. "I think this could be the kind of win that turns our season around. We've been struggling for the last couple weeks." David Robinson had 23 points, and Tim Duncan returned after a four-game absence with a lower abdominal strain and had 22 points for the Spurs, who played in front of a season-high 35,113 at the Alamodome. "It's great to be back," Duncan said. "But in a situation like this, when we give one away, it's tough." The Kings forced overtime by outscoring the Spurs 13-7 during the final 5:31 of the fourth quarter. Webber scored with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth, tying it 92-92. The Spurs set up an attempt by Duncan on the other end, but he was stripped of the ball with six seconds remaining. "This may very well have been our best all-around effort of the year," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "So many guys stepped it up tonight. We were not going to hurt ourselves. We were going to make them beat us and earn a victory. Hopefully, this will be a jump start to our season." With the loss, the Spurs lost an opportunity to move into a first-place tie with Utah in the Midwest Division. Duncan scored eight points and added an assist during a 3:38 stretch in the middle of the fourth quarter when the Spurs erased a five-point deficit to take an 85-79 lead with 5:31 remaining. The Kings battled back to tie it 88-88 with two minutes remaining, but Mario Elie hit a 3-pointer from the right corner as the shot clock sounded to give the Spurs a 91-88 lead with 1:11 remaining. Sacramento's reserves outscored San Antonio's 24-8 to take a 51-45 halftime lead. Robinson led the Spurs with 15 first-half points.
