Traded by the Cleveland Indians to the New York Mets for Ryan Thompson and Reid Cornelius on Mar. 31, 1996 ... After dropping five of first six decisions, went 13-6 with a 3.16 ERA over final 25 starts ... Won six straight decisions from June 8-July 16 ... Did not allow an earned run for 23 consecutive innings from May 22-June 8 ... Fanned career-high nine batters in 3-2 win vs. Atlanta on June 12.

1995
Started the season in the big leagues but was optioned to the Triple A Buffalo Bisons on May 26 after posting a 10.65 ERA in six starts ... In five starts with the Bisons, he went 4-0 with a 3.57 ERA ... Recalled on June 27 to take the injured Orel Hershiser's spot in the rotation (Hershiser had a strained back) ... Responded with a 7-1, eight innings pitched victory over the Royals in his first game back ... Pitched 5.1 innings of relief on Aug. 2, his first relief appearance since May 31, 1993 ... Pitched a complete game, three-hit 4-1 victory on Aug. 29 vs. Toronto, his career best low-hit game ...
