Made his first career Opening Day start on April 1 at Chicago ... Strung together a personal-best five-game winning streak over 11 starts and three trips to the disabled list from May 3 to Sept. 1, with a 2.16 ERA ... Placed on the disabled list three times, missing a total of 60 games (June 12, July 5, Aug. 1) ... Allowed just 2.03 walks per nine innings ... A career .142 hitter, busted out with a 4-for-4 performance on April 16 at Colorado ... Tied for second on the club with eight sacrifice bunts.

1995
Ashby posted a career-best 12-10 record, 2.94 ERA (3rd best in the league) and 150 strikeouts (tied for eighth in the NL) ... Led the staff with 12 wins and was the only Padres' pitcher to post double-digits in victories ... Came into the season with just 11 big league victories ... 2.94 ERA was club's best since Ed Whitson's 2.60 ERA in 1990 (also ranked third in NL) ... From June through the All-Star break was 4-2 with 1.70 ERA (58.1 IP/11 ER) ... During the stretch tossed the first shutout of his career on June 18 at Pittsburgh, giving up only 4 hits (equaling career-best, fourth time) with 2 walks and a then career-best 10 strikeouts ... Had 19.0 scoreless innings streak Aug. 5-21, snapped Aug. 21 at Philly with run in second inning ... Finished with second most sacrifice hits in the league with 17, the most by a Padre since Roberto Alomar had 17 sacrifices in 1989.

His 6-11 record did not reflect the improvement he made on the mound ... His 3.40 ERA was the best of his career ... Struck out 121 hitters while only walking 43 in 164.1 innings of work ... Posted a major-league career-best four complete games.

1993
Traded by the Colorado Rockies with Brad Ausmus and Doug Bochtler to the San Diego Padres for Bruce Hurst and Greg W. Harris on July 26, 1993 ... He made seven starts (0-3; 6.14) before being sent to the bullpen ... In seven relief appearances, he gave up only three earned runs in 7-2/3 innings from May 16 to June 1, including his only major league save on May 25 at Houston ... Made two more starts and was back in the bullpen for four appearances before being sent down to Class AAA Colorado Springs ... Posted a 4-2 mark with a 4.10 ERA in seven games (six starts) at Colorado Springs before being traded from the Rockies to the Padres with Brad Ausmus and Doug Bochtler for Greg Harris and Bruce Hurst on July 26, 1993 ... Went right into the Padres' starting rotation, but lost his first two starts ... Was then victorious in two of his next three starts, allowing six earned runs in 21 innings for a 2.57 ERA.

1992
Began the season at Scranton-Wilkes Barre of the International League, but was quickly summoned to the majors in mid-April ... Went 1-0, 3.00 through his first two starts before he suffered a fractured right thumb April 26 when he was hit with a line drive off the bat of the Mets' Mackey Sasser ... Was sidelined from April 27 to Aug. 11, a span of 93 games ... Had suffered a similar injury the previous year after just one spring training appearance ... After healing from the injury, returned to Triple-A for three rehab starts, then joined the Phillies ... Made his first major league relief appearance on Sept. 7 vs. the Mets, his first bullpen outing since turning pro in 1986 ... Held opposing batters to a .202 average at Scranton-Wilkes Barre ... Selected by the Colorado Rockies in the first round (25th pick overall) of the 1992 Expansion Draft.

1991
After recovering from a broken thumb, became a regular in the starting rotation at Scranton-Wilkes Barre, going 11-11 in 26 starts, tying for the International League lead with six complete games and three shutouts ... Was summoned to the big leagues and made his major-league debut with a start on June 10 at Cincinnati ... In his next start, five days later and also against the Reds, he became the 11th player in major league history to strikeout the side on nine pitches ... Was optioned back to Triple-A where his minor-league campaign was highlighted by a one-hitter, two-hitter, and a three-hitter ... Had Scranton-Wilkes Barre's second-longest scoreless streak at 25-1/3 innings ... Earned September recall and earned his first major-league win on Sept. 24 at Chicago.

1986
Signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent to a minor-league contract on May 4, 1986.
