BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox acquired righty Hector Carrasco from Minnesota on Sunday to bolster a bullpen decimated by injuries to Bryce Florie, Rich Garces and Hipolito Pichardo.

The Red Sox sent Class-A outfielder Lew Ford to Minnesota for Carrasco, a major leaguer since 1994, when he joined Cincinnati.

In 61 games this season, all in relief, Carrasco is 4-3 with one save and a 4.25 ERA. He is 11th among AL relievers with 72 innings pitched. He has 57 strikeouts and 33 walks and has allowed only six homers.

Florie was lost for the season when he suffered serious right eye damage and broken facial bones after being hit Friday night with a liner off the bat of Ryan Thompson of the New York Yankees. He had surgery Saturday.

Pichardo is out with a forearm injury and Garces has a groin problem. Both are expected to return this season as Boston, which began the day three games behind AL wild-card leader Cleveland, fights for a playoff berth.

Carrasco, 30, began this season with a 19-29 record, 13 saves and 3.99 ERA in six seasons with Cincinnati, Kansas City and Minnesota. In the second half of this season, he is 1-1 with a 3.16 ERA. Ford, 20, hit .315 in 126 games for Augusta, the third best batting average in the South Atlantic League. He also led the league with 122 runs, was tied for second with 11 triples, was third with 162 hits and 35 doubles and was fifth with 52 stolen bases. He also had nine homers and 74 RBIs.
