TORONTO -- Dave Martinez was traded from Texas to Toronto on Friday night, tying a major-league record by joining his fourth team this season.

The 35-year-old was acquired by Texas from the Chicago Cubs on June 9. He started the season with Tampa Bay. The Blue Jays acquired the outfielder for a player to be named later.

"It's part of the game. It happens," Martinez said. "I'm just glad teams want me."

The last player to play for four teams was Dave Kingman, who played with the Mets, Padres, Angels and Yankees in 1977.

After the Rangers lost 10-8 to the Blue Jays on Friday night, Martinez was told he would join the team down the hall.

"I'm kind of glad they won tonight," said Martinez, who is hitting .269 with two home runs and 12 RBI since being acquired by Texas.

"I'm pretty surprised just to go across the field, but it's been that kind of season for me."

The Blue Jays, who will likely lose Raul Mondesi for the season because of ligament damage in his right elbow, acquired Martinez to replace Mondesi.
